รหัส Morse จำเป็นต้องใช้ตัวอักษรย่อ เพื่อให้การติดต่อข่าวสารของนักวิทยุสมัครเล่น เป็นไปด้วยความรวดเร็ว ใช้เวลาน้อยที่สุด และเข้าใจตรงกัน โดยเฉพาะนักวิทยุที่ใช้ภาษาต่างกัน
